Amit Shah To Inaugurate NIA Anti-Terror Conference On Strengthening Counter-Terror Strategies
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated a two-day “Anti-Terror Conference” organised by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi today, bringing together top security stakeholders from across the country.
The annual conference, conceptualised under the government’s stated policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism, aims to review emerging threats and firm up future-ready counter-terrorism strategies through intensive deliberations.
Focus On Unified Counter-Terror Strategy
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the primary objective of the conference is to develop stronger synergy among central agencies, State police forces and technical experts through a “whole-of-government” approach to combating terrorism.
Deliberations are expected to generate substantive inputs for policy formulation on issues ranging from investigations and prosecutions to international cooperation and the dismantling of terror ecosystems operating across different regions of the country.
Key Sessions And Agenda
Over the next two days, participants will attend themed sessions on collecting evidence from foreign jurisdictions, digital forensics and data analysis, managing complex terror trials, and addressing radicalisation and espionage.
Special focus has been placed on disrupting terror financing networks through new tools, techniques and case studies, as well as on building future-ready counter-terror strategies that address hybrid and technology-driven threats.
Participants From Across India
Senior police officers from States and Union Territories, officers from central agencies and departments dealing with counter-terrorism, and domain experts from law, forensics and technology are participating in the conference.
The NIA, which is hosting the event, describes the platform as a meeting point for operational forces and specialists to share experiences, best practices and lessons learnt from major terror investigations conducted in recent years.
Context: Building On Previous Conferences
This edition of the Anti-Terror Conference will also review the implementation of recommendations made in previous years, including steps towards a unified national counter-terror strategy and tighter coordination on cyber and financial terrorism cases.
Officials indicate that new announcements related to prosecution-led investigations, use of emerging technologies and enhanced coordination between State and central agencies may be made during Amit Shah’s inaugural and valedictory addresses.
Government’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ Message
In recent interactions, Amit Shah has consistently underlined the government’s commitment to creating a “terror-free India”, stressing that every arm of the security and justice system must work in coordination from police station to national level.
The conference is expected to reinforce this message by pushing for faster investigations, stronger convictions under UAPA and related laws, and improved institutional capacities to deal with transnational terror and its funding networks.
