Messi Mania Peaks In Delhi As ‘GOAT India Tour’ Enters Grand Finale With Suárez In Tow

By State Correspondents News Desk | Updated: 16 December 2025 | Football Messi GOAT Tour
Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez waving to a packed crowd at a floodlit stadium in New Delhi

Lionel Messi’s much‑talked‑about “GOAT India Tour 2025” has reached its final leg in New Delhi, where the World Cup‑winning captain is set to headline a sold‑out show at Arun Jaitley Stadium alongside long‑time teammate Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul. After high‑octane stops in Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai, the Delhi finale brings the curtain down on Messi’s first multi‑city visit to India in over a decade, with security scaled up and fan fever at an all‑time high.

High‑Security Welcome, Fans Line Up With ‘Te Amo Leo’ Placards

Messi landed in the national capital on Monday afternoon to a tight security bubble, with police and private guards cordoning off access roads and hotel surroundings as hundreds of supporters tried to catch a glimpse of the Argentine star. Videos from outside Delhi airport and the team hotel show children and adults waving Argentina flags, holding “Te Amo Leo” placards and chanting his name as the convoy moved past.

Authorities have deployed additional personnel at the Arun Jaitley Stadium area, set up multiple security rings, and restricted vehicle movement around the venue to manage the expected 30,000‑plus crowd. Organisers say all tickets for the Delhi leg were sold out days in advance, with several online platforms flagging the event as one of the fastest‑selling sports and entertainment shows of the year.

Delhi Schedule: Clinic With Kids, Celebrity Match And GOAT Cup

As per the official itinerary, stadium gates opened around 11:30 am, with pre‑show music and fan interaction building up to the main programme in the afternoon. Messi is slated to appear during a celebrity seven‑a‑side football match, followed by a special clinic with around 30 children from Minerva Academy, where he and Suárez are expected to share tips and kick a ball around with the youngsters.

The evening segment features a stage ceremony and the GOAT Cup exhibition game, with Messi joining in the second half of play before addressing the crowd. Senior sports officials, including BCCI secretary Jay Shah and star cricketers such as Virat Kohli, are expected to be present, continuing the cricket‑meets‑football theme that has run through earlier legs of the tour.

Viral Moments: Young Fans, Suárez Antics And Ronaldo Chants

Social media has been flooded with clips from the Delhi leg, including one viral video of a young fan excitedly describing how he saved up for months to see Messi live and another showing the superstar signing Argentina jerseys for children on the sidelines. Separate reels capture Luis Suárez joking with kids, dancing to Bollywood beats and joining Messi in kicking autographed balls into the stands, drawing deafening roars from the crowd.

In one incident, security personnel escorted a group of Cristiano Ronaldo fans out of a section of the Arun Jaitley Stadium after they repeatedly performed the “Siu” celebration, sparking arguments with nearby Messi supporters. The situation was quickly contained, but the contrasting chants highlighted the intense rivalry between the two global fanbases, even as many spectators said they simply wanted to enjoy a rare chance to see Messi in person.

From Kolkata Chaos To A Smooth Delhi Finale

The relatively smooth Delhi leg is being seen as a recovery for organisers after chaotic scenes in Kolkata earlier in the tour, where some angry fans breached barricades and damaged property when they were unable to watch Messi’s brief appearance at the Salt Lake Stadium. Learning from that episode, the finale in the capital has clearer communication on entry timings, tighter access control and more structured fan interactions, including designated selfie and autograph zones.

For Indian football fans, the GOAT Tour has offered more than just star sightings: it has brought global attention to the country’s passion for the sport, given academy players rare on‑field exposure with Messi and Suárez, and fuelled fresh conversations about investing in grassroots football beyond cricket’s shadow.
