The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Team India 10% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over‑rate in the second ODI against South Africa at Raipur, where KL Rahul was leading the side in the absence of injured regular captain Shubman Gill. Match referee Richie Richardson ruled that India were two overs short of the required quota even after time allowances were taken into account, triggering an automatic financial penalty under ICC regulations.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time; with India two overs short, the total deduction comes to 10% for each playing member.
Rahul Accepts Charge, No Hearing Needed
As stand‑in skipper, KL Rahul accepted responsibility for the offence, pleading guilty to the on‑field umpires’ charge and agreeing to the proposed sanction, which meant no formal disciplinary hearing was required. The charge was levelled by match officials after India’s bowlers exceeded the time limits during South Africa’s successful chase of 350, a result that levelled the three‑match series 1‑1 at that stage.

India went on to dominate the decider in Visakhapatnam, winning by nine wickets to secure the ODI series 2‑1, but the Raipur offence highlights ICC’s stricter enforcement of over‑rate rules across formats.
