1000273461 Jammu Battles Severe Weather: Schools Closed Amid Flood Alerts.

Heavy rainfall has battered Jammu and surrounding districts, leading to flash floods, landslides, and major waterlogging. All government and private schools in Jammu Division are closed on August 27, 2025, as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety. Authorities have issued flood alerts due to rising river water levels and intense rainfall predicted over the next 48 hours. Disaster management teams are on high alert with rescue operations underway to assist affected residents.

Flash Floods Rescue: Four People Saved in Kathua District

A joint rescue operation successfully saved a family of four trapped by sudden flash floods in Shahpur Kandi near the Ravi river in Kathua district. The prompt action by police, NDRF, and SDRF teams averted a potential tragedy. Meanwhile, multiple roads have been damaged due to mudslides and floodwaters, disrupting traffic and daily life in the region.

Heavy Downpour Creates Flood-like Situation in Jammu City

Jammu recorded its 2nd highest single-day rainfall in August in nearly a century, with 190.4 mm of rain pouring down. Low-lying areas such as Janipur, Bhawani Nagar, and Roop Nagar experienced severe waterlogging, and floodwaters entered homes. Damage to critical infrastructure like the Jammu-Pathankot highway bridge has further complicated relief efforts.
