Jammu Turns Into Fortress: Union Home Secretary Reviews Security Grid Ahead of Republic Day

JAMMU: In a major push to ensure a peaceful Republic Day, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka arrived in the winter capital today for a two-day strategic review of the security landscape in Jammu & Kashmir.
Mission-Mode Operations
The high-level meeting, held at the Jammu Convention Centre, brought together the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the DGP of Jammu & Kashmir, and top brass from the Army, BSF, CRPF, and SSB. The primary focus remains on a “zero-tolerance” policy against terrorism, with instructions to maintain “mission mode” for all anti-terror operations across the Union Territory.
Key Meeting Agendas:
- Drone Threats: Strategies to counter frequent drone-led weapon and drug drops along the International Border.
- Winter Vigilance: Intensified search operations in hilly terrains of Doda, Kishtwar, and Kathua where terrorists may seek shelter from heavy snow.
- Republic Day Safety: Deployment of 40 JKAS officers and specialized units to secure main celebration venues.
Officials also discussed the recent Kathua encounter and the “Anti-Infiltration Grid” to thwart launchpad activities on the Pakistani side. The Union Home Secretary is scheduled to visit forward border outposts tomorrow for a direct ground assessment.
