Chomu, Jaipur, Rajasthan – In a strong message against violence and illegal encroachment, the Jaipur district administration on Friday carried out a major bulldozer drive in Chomu town, demolishing illegal structures linked to accused in a recent stone-pelting incident near a mosque.
Crackdown After Mosque Encroachment Clash
The action comes a week after violent clashes erupted in Chomu’s Imam Chowk area, where a mob pelted stones at police and civic officials who had gone to remove iron railings and stones placed on the road near a mosque as part of a traffic management and road-widening drive.
During that incident, several police personnel were injured, and the situation turned tense, forcing authorities to impose internet restrictions and deploy heavy security to control the situation.
Notices Served, Demolition Follows
Following the violence, police identified and pasted notices on the houses and shops of 24 accused stone-pelters, asking them to submit their response or valid documents within three days. When the deadline expired on December 31 without any reply, the Chomu Municipal Council was authorised to initiate demolition proceedings.
On Friday, municipal teams, supported by police and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) personnel, began removing illegal encroachments, including ramps, extensions, and other unauthorised constructions in Pathans’ Mohalla and nearby areas.
Heavy Security, Bulldozers Deployed
Heavy security was deployed across Chomu, with two companies of RAC and district police forces on alert under the supervision of senior officers, including DCP Hanuman Prasad Meena, to prevent any fresh flare-up.
Multiple bulldozers and civic vehicles reached the area early in the morning, and demolition work continued through the day. Most of the targeted houses were found locked, while residents at a few locations declined to speak to reporters.
19 Accused Arrested, Probe Ongoing
So far, 19 individuals have been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting case, and more names have surfaced during interrogation, officials said. Police are examining video footage from the night of the incident to identify additional suspects.
Special Police Commissioner Rahul Prakash, Jaipur, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that authorities are also verifying whether any of the accused are from outside Rajasthan and their possible motive.
Illegal Slaughterhouses, Unauthorised Constructions Targeted
Alongside the action against stone-pelters, the administration is also cracking down on 20 illegal slaughterhouses and four other unauthorised constructions in Pathans’ Mohalla, for which a three-day notice was issued on December 29.
Chomu Municipal Council Assistant Accounts Officer Sunil Kumar Swami said that if valid documents are not produced or the structures are not removed voluntarily, the council will proceed with demolition and sealing as per rules.
Mixed Reactions from Locals
Locals in Chomu expressed mixed reactions to the bulldozer drive. While some residents welcomed strict action against those involved in violence and illegal encroachment, others demanded that innocent families should not be targeted.
“Law and order must be maintained, but the action should be fair and not collective punishment,” said a local shopkeeper, requesting anonymity.
Government Sends Strong Message
The Rajasthan government has made it clear that strict action will continue against those involved in violence and illegal activities, while security forces remain on high alert to ensure peace in the area.
Deputy CM Diya Kumari and other leaders have backed the administration’s move, calling it a necessary step to uphold the rule of law and deter anti-social elements.
