The Apni Party (AIP) has voiced serious concerns regarding the worsening condition of Jammu and Kashmir’s vital highways

The Apni Party (AIP) in Jammu and Kashmir has raised urgent concerns over the deteriorating condition of critical highways and transportation routes within the region. This crisis has led to severe disruptions in the movement of essential goods, services, and commuters, especially affecting remote and hilly areas which rely greatly on reliable transport connections for their daily needs and economic activities.

The party has formally demanded that Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) trucks be given priority deployment on these crucial highways. The rationale behind this demand is to ensure uninterrupted and efficient transportation for essential commodities such as food, medicine, and fuel as well as the mobility of residents within Jammu and Kashmir.

Several factors have contributed to the highway crisis, including recent landslides triggered by late monsoon rains, ongoing infrastructure repair works, congestion caused by increased traffic, and inadequate transport resources to handle emergencies. These issues have collectively exacerbated supply chain vulnerabilities, threatening the availability of essential services and goods in isolated regions and urban centers alike.

The AIP urges authorities to coordinate a swift response by allocating SRTC trucks on priority routes to maintain critical supply chains. Deployment of government-run transport reduces dependency on private operators during crises and ensures that governmental oversight and regulation uphold consistent service quality and affordability.

This demand aligns with the broader vision of strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s internal connectivity and improving the resilience of its transport infrastructure, which is vital for regional development, economic growth, and timely disaster response.

By prioritizing SRTC trucks, the AIP believes the government can prevent supply shortages, reduce travel delays, support local markets, and improve overall public welfare during periods of infrastructural stress or natural disruptions.
