JK Daily Wagers Hold Major Demonstration Outside Civil Secretariat; Warn of Sustained Movement to Delhi
JAMMU: Hundreds of temporary workers and daily wagers assembled outside the Civil Secretariat in Jammu today to press for their long-pending demands, including job security, fair wages, and regularization of services across administrative departments in Jammu and Kashmir.
Organized under the banner of the All Daily Wagers Jammu Kashmir Sangarsh Samiti, the demonstration commenced at 11:30 AM on Monday, August 10, 2026. Protesters voiced intense anger against successive administrative delays in resolving grievances that have persisted for years.
Key Demands Raised by the Sangarsh Samiti
- Implementation of Minimum Wages Act: Immediate application of statutory minimum wages across all government departments in the Union Territory.
- Regularization Policy: Granting permanent status to all eligible daily wagers and casual workers who have served for years.
- Comprehensive Job Security: Formal legal and employment protection against arbitrary disengagement.
- Resolution of Pending Issues: Clearance of long-pending wage arrears and standardized welfare measures.
- Employment Protections: Institutional safeguards ensuring dignified working conditions for all workers.
Addressing the assembled workers outside the administrative complex, Mr. Sunny Kant Chib, JK UT President of the All Daily Wagers Jammu Kashmir Sangarsh Samiti, emphasized that daily wagers form the core operational backbone of essential public services across Jammu & Kashmir, yet continue to face severe financial hardship.
“Our demands are legitimate, democratic, and rooted in basic employment rights. If the concerned authorities fail to address these issues promptly, the Sangarsh Samiti will be forced to launch a larger, sustained democratic movement. We will take the collective voice of Jammu & Kashmir’s workers from Jammu straight to the national capital in Delhi,” stated UT President Mr. Sunny Kant Chib.
The Sangarsh Samiti reiterated that while the leadership remains committed to peaceful and constitutional means, the patience of thousands of daily wager families is wearing thin. The organization called upon the administration to take decisive action rather than offering assurances, warning that failure to act will escalate the agitation to the national stage.
