Leh, Jammu Mirror: In a major development shaping regional politics across the cold desert, Ladakhi socio-political leadership has decided to defer its proposed protest foot march from Kargil to Leh, citing a crucial round of upcoming formal negotiations with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The padyatra, which was organized to press the central government on long-standing regional demands, was originally slated to embark on September 10. However, with the Union Home Ministry scheduling an official round of talks on September 9, leadership representing both the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) chose to prioritize constructive engagement at the negotiation table.
Addressing a media gathering in Leh, prominent climate activist and frontline voice Sonam Wangchuk explained that the timing of the Centre’s outreach warranted a temporary pause on street demonstrations.

Wangchuk further underscored that whether the leadership chooses to mobilize on the streets again will depend entirely on the substance and outcome of the September 9 dialogue in New Delhi. He pointed out that positive deliberations could significantly reshape their agitation trajectory: “If the talks go very well, perhaps we may not need to hold many major programmes,” he noted.

Dorjey revealed that the front intentionally muted demonstrations and agitations over the previous two months out of reverence for the spiritual stay of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in Leh.
However, Dorjey indicated that following the Dalai Lama’s departure back to Dharamshala, the joint leadership stands prepared to reinvigorate civic campaigns should the ongoing deliberations hit an impasse.
Dorjey formally welcomed the reactivation of the dedicated sub-committee set up to tackle Ladakh’s core concerns, voicing hope that the upcoming interaction will foster tangible progress toward safeguarding the region’s socio-cultural and constitutional future.
