Srinagar MP hits out at party high command over dilution of constitutional stand, 7% power tariff hike, and calls for his resignation.
SRINAGAR — National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, launched a scathing attack on his party’s leadership, challenging them to issue a formal show-cause notice if they believe he has compromised party ideology.
Speaking to reporters, the parliamentarian revealed that internal party factions had asked him to resign for persistently demanding accountability on core political commitments and the fight for Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional rights.
Key Points from MP Ruhullah’s Address
- Open Challenge on Resignation Demands: Ruhullah dared the NC leadership to follow established procedural protocols rather than making informal demands for his exit.“They are failing to face accountability. When I ask why we are not fighting for the principles promised to the people, the answer I get is: ‘resign.’ If they want me to resign, let them issue a show-cause notice asking where I violated the party’s ideology or stand. I am ready to answer.”
- Dilution of Constitutional Battle: The MP accused the party leadership of abandoning the larger struggle for special status and constitutional protections in favor of limited administrative demands.“Instead of Article 370, instead of constitutional guarantees, they have reduced the narrative to statehood and transaction of business rules. We received a mandate to fight for constitutional rights, not to dilute them.”
- Accountability on 200 Free Electricity Units: Recalling the party’s 2024 campaign assurances, Mehdi questioned the government’s failure to deliver free electricity while imposing a near-7% tariff increase.“The Chief Minister once said he would throw electricity meters into the river. He couldn’t do that. Instead of providing 200 units of free electricity, tariffs have been hiked by nearly seven percent.”
- Crisis of Political Character: Mehdi highlighted an ongoing erosion of trust in regional politics, calling upon the younger generation to enter public life with conviction and values to dismantle politics centered around unfulfilled promises.
- Stand on Social Issues & Justice: The Srinagar MP reiterated his ongoing stance regarding reservation policies and demanded transparent accountability and deterrence in heinous crimes, referring specifically to the Kishtwar rape case.
