NAGBAL (BUDGAM): Underlining the urgent need to sustain the local economy, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker and MLA for Charar-i-Sharief, Abdul Rahim Rather, has called upon the authorities to reopen the scenic health resort of Yousmarg without delay.

Interacting with media representatives at Nagbal, Rather expressed deep concern over the prevailing shutdown of the destination, pointing out that thousands of families in the surrounding belt depend entirely on tourism-related operations for their day-to-day survival.

“A vast section of local stakeholders—including pony service operators, hoteliers, small kiosk owners, and tea stall vendors—are facing severe economic distress due to the continued closure of Yousmarg. The destination must resume operations immediately to safeguard their livelihoods,” Rather stated.

Rather informed that he has officially taken up the matter with the Deputy Commissioner of Budgam, urging the administrative head to personally visit the hill station, take stock of the ground realities, and expedite the clearance process. The Speaker expressed confidence that Yousmarg would welcome visitors back within the next few days.

Restoration of Essential Infrastructure on Priority

Beyond reopening the tourist hub, Rather underscored the administration’s responsibility to equip Yousmarg with basic civic and communication amenities. He assured the public that critical connectivity and banking challenges are being resolved on a war footing.

  • High-Speed Connectivity: Discussions have been held with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) authorities to ensure internet services are fully restored in the tourist zone promptly.
  • Banking & ATM Services: The MLA has personally approached relevant bank managements to set up and commission a dedicated ATM booth at the resort, eliminating cash flow hassles for both tourists and local traders.
  • Infrastructure Upgradation: Ongoing efforts are aimed at resolving fundamental public utility gaps to ensure hassle-free tourist movement and local business continuity.

Reaffirming his commitment to regional development, Rather maintained that preserving the tourism ecosystem of Charar-i-Sharief remains a top priority, and no stone will be left unturned to make Yousmarg accessible and fully equipped for visitors ahead of the peak influx.
