Jammu, Aug 26: In a major breakthrough against cross-border narco-terror networks, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Jammu Zonal Unit dismantled an inter-state drug syndicate on Wednesday, seizing 5.16 kg of high-grade heroin worth crores of rupees and arresting three key operatives, including the syndicate’s mastermind.
The operation commenced on Saturday when an NCB team, acting on precise intelligence, intercepted a suspicious vehicle in the Panjtirthi area of Jammu city. A search of the vehicle yielded the massive consignment of contraband, leading to the on-the-spot apprehension of two couriers, both hailing from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Mastermind Tracked and Arrested in Leh
Following up on critical leads obtained during initial questioning, investigators quickly identified the primary supplier and kingpin behind the module—also a Baramulla native. An NCB team tracked the suspect to Ladakh’s Leh district and arrested him on Monday, just 48 hours after the initial seizure in Jammu.
Pakistan-Uri Border Link Unearthed
Preliminary findings suggest the seized contraband originated across the border in Pakistan and was smuggled into Jammu and Kashmir via the Uri sector in Baramulla.
An NCB spokesperson emphasized that the swift capture of the kingpin reflects the agency’s strategy to dismantle complete syndicates—targeting end-to-end supply chains rather than stopping at ground-level couriers.
The multi-agency probe is now focusing on:
- Identifying cross-border suppliers and infiltration routes.
- Tracing illicit hawala and banking channels.
- Tracking downstream distributors and local peddling networks.
This massive bust marks the third major strike by NCB Jammu this month, following seizures of 438 grams on August 12 and 603 grams on August 13.
