Addressing the 10th-anniversary celebration of the institute, the Lieutenant Governor outlines a four-point roadmap and urges students to deliver tangible innovations before graduating.
JAMMU — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha called upon the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu to transform its rapid institutional growth into groundbreaking discoveries by developing bold, indigenous business ideas rooted in the socioeconomic landscape of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Speaking at the 10-year celebration of the institute alongside members of the Board of Governors, faculty, alumni, and students, LG Sinha emphasized that premier educational institutions earn their reputation by providing decisive solutions when the nation confronts complex challenges.
A Decade of Rapid Transformation
Reflecting on the institute’s journey over the past decade, the Lieutenant Governor noted that IIM Jammu has evolved from a modest start into an internationally accredited business school:
- Expanding Footprint: Began operations a decade ago with only 56 students operating out of a temporary campus on Canal Road.
- Global Accreditations: Emerged as the fifth IIM in India to secure dual AMBA and EFMD international accreditations.
- Global Collaborations: Established academic tie-ups with partner institutions across France, the UK, Germany, Australia, South Korea, Brazil, Greece, Poland, Sweden, Morocco, and Taiwan.
- Research Surge: Increased academic research output from just two published papers in 2017 to nearly 350 publications this year.
LG Sinha commended the leadership of Director Prof. B.S. Sahay, the faculty, and the Board of Governors for creating an operational model that other emerging management institutions now look to for guidance.
The Four Strategic Priorities for the Next Decade
Drawing parallels with institutions like Harvard (case-based learning), Stanford (Silicon Valley enterprise integration), and Wharton (financial market mastery), LG Sinha outlined four key focus areas to anchor IIM Jammu’s identity:
- Distinctive Academic Identity: Move away from excessive reliance on Western business case studies by creating native case literature centered on Indian business dynamics, particularly the unique supply chain, logistics, and entrepreneurial conditions of J&K and Ladakh.
- Hands-on Experiential Learning: Mandate that every graduating student execute a practical, real-world project before leaving campus—leveraging the institute’s Entrepreneurship Centre and the Centre for Small Business Development.
- Frontier & Border Economy Research: Focus institutional research on border area economics, sustainable mountain development, and frontier entrepreneurship.
- Nation-Building Placements: Align graduate career outcomes with India’s long-term vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 (Viksit Bharat), preparing leaders to steer corporate boards and found enterprises.

During the event, the Lieutenant Governor formally released seven commemorative coffee-table books chronicling the institute’s milestones.
