Autumn Session: Speaker Convenes All-Party Meet on Thursday; LoP Sunil Sharma to Chair BJP Strategy Huddle

Srinagar: In an effort to secure seamless legislative proceedings ahead of the upcoming 10-day Autumn Session, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has convened an all-party consultation on Thursday.

The Assembly Secretariat has formally dispatched communications to legislative floor leaders across party affiliations and members of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), requesting their presence at 2:00 PM inside the Assembly complex.

Stormy Session on the Cards

The high-level consultative outreach comes just ahead of the commencement of the session on September 21. Political observers anticipate heated exchanges on the floor, with the principal opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alongside Valley-based groups—including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), People’s Conference (PC), and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP)—gearing up to aggressively put the administration on the mat over various governance, regional development, and public-interest concerns.

Gearing up for parliamentary floor coordination, the BJP has set its legislative caucus into motion. Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma is slated to preside over a key consultative meeting of party MLAs tomorrow at the BJP headquarters in Jammu to firm up their intervention strategy and floor coordination.

Legislative Calendar: Four Government Bills Slated

According to the official business roster notified by the Assembly Secretariat, the 10-day sitting will split legislative time between administrative priorities and member business:

Legislative focus will remain firmly trained on the Treasury benches, which are poised to table four key government bills. Historically, Private Members’ initiatives face substantial procedural hurdles and rarely secure legislative passage in either the Lok Sabha or the J&K Assembly, making the government’s official legislative docket the focal point of the forthcoming session.
