Jammu: Delivering crucial support to those affected by recent floods and landslides, the Central Government has credited ₹171 crore directly into the accounts of over 8.55 lakh farmers across Jammu & Kashmir. This aid comes as the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, with a significant focus on including more than 85,000 women farmers in the latest disbursement.

The virtual release ceremony, organized from Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, was attended by Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, senior government officials, and representatives from Jammu & Kashmir, who joined online. The initiative underlines the government’s commitment to providing immediate financial relief to restore agricultural activities and secure rural livelihoods in the wake of severe flooding.

According to officials, this infusion of funds aims to help farming communities resume essential operations and recover from calamity-induced losses. Since the launch of the PM-Kisan scheme, farmers in Jammu & Kashmir have collectively received support exceeding ₹4,000 crore.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Agriculture Minister Chouhan for prioritizing the concerns of Jammu & Kashmir’s rural population. He reiterated that farming is the backbone of the region’s economy and that all possible measures are being taken to help farmers rebuild their lives and livelihoods.

The PM-Kisan scheme provides ₹6,000 per year to eligible farmers in three equal installments, ensuring timely financial support through direct benefit transfer. The current disbursement is expected to accelerate recovery, especially for those grappling with the aftermath of one of the worst floods in recent memory.
