Commissioning Event in Visakhapatnam

Today, the Indian Navy formally commissioned INS Androth, its newest Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the impressive Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. The ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, who highlighted the importance of this strategic addition to the country’s maritime arsenal.

Advanced Features & Indigenous Technology

• Design & Builder: INS Androth is a product of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, renowned for engineering excellence and innovation in shipbuilding.
• Indigenous Content: Over 80% of the ship’s material and equipment are sourced from Indian manufacturers, championing self-reliance and the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
• Capabilities: Stretching approximately 77 meters, the vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art lightweight torpedoes, indigenous ASW rockets, modern shallow water sonar and high-grade communication systems for submarine detection and rapid engagement.

Role in India’s Maritime Defence

The induction of INS Androth will considerably strengthen India’s ability to monitor and secure coastal and shallow water zones, responding swiftly to underwater threats that could endanger national security. Its induction is part of a wider momentum, with the recent addition of ships like Arnala and Udaygiri enhancing the Navy’s operational reach.
