Katra/Reasi, Aug 26: In a significant breakthrough against the illicit trade of pharmaceutical drugs, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday seized 4,080 capsules of Pregabalin and arrested one person in the Katra area of Reasi district.
The apprehended accused has been identified as Ankush Kumar, a resident of Chak Mathyani in Rajouri district.
Acting on specific vigilance inputs, a police team intercepted the suspect near Banganga. Upon a thorough search of a suspicious black polythene bag carried by him, police recovered a massive consignment of 4,080 Pregabalin capsules. The haul included four large packets containing 1,000 capsules each, alongside eight blister strips carrying 80 capsules.
Pregabalin is a prescription medication often diverted into black markets and misused as an intoxicating substance.
Following the recovery, Katra Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation to trace the supply chain, uncover the origin of the consignment, and identify the intended local distributors.
Reasi Police reiterated that the operation is part of their sustained zero-tolerance campaign against the illicit peddling and abuse of narcotic and psychotropic substances across the district.
