JAMMU, Aug 24: Heightened panic and distress have gripped Kashmiri Pandit government employees posted in the Kashmir Valley following the circulation of fresh terror threats on social media containing sensitive personal information, including residential addresses and vehicle registration numbers. The development has triggered widespread calls for an immediate high-level probe into the suspected leakage of official data and an urgent security overhaul.
The threatening poster, dated August 23, was allegedly issued by a shadow terror outfit styling itself as the “United Liberation Council” (ULC).
Addressing the administration, the All PM Package Employees Forum Kashmir submitted a formal letter to the Chief Secretary, urging swift intervention. The forum highlighted that while security agencies are yet to verify the authenticity of the latest poster, the repeated circulation of such specific target lists poses a grave risk to employee safety.
Key Highlights of the Developing Situation:
- Data Breach Fears: Unlike previous communications, the latest threat list details Jammu residential addresses, phone numbers, and vehicle details, raising severe concerns over potential leaks from internal administrative channels.
- Persistent Pattern: Representatives noted that this marks roughly the 37th threat communication received since the targeted killing of PM package employee Rahul Bhat inside his office in 2022.
- 1990s-Style Intimidation: Employees have termed the campaign a calculated conspiracy to revive the climate of fear seen in the early 1990s and force minority employees to flee the Valley.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, PM Special Package employee Sunny Raina expressed deep concern over the escalating vulnerability of staff members and their families.
“Our personal information has been leaked and shared with terror outfits. We urge the security agencies to track down the source of this data breach and immediately deploy protection outside the residences and workplaces of those named,” Raina said.
Immediate Demands Raised by the Employees:
MHA Intervention: An appeal to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to send a central assessment team to the Valley to review the ground realities and address the growing security deficit faced by minority staff.lice and security agencies for verification and necessary action.
Precautionary Measures: Granting permission for Work From Home (WFH) until security audits are completed and threat levels subside.
Enhanced Security: Deployment of dedicated security details at workplaces, transit accommodations, and residences of named individuals.
The forum recalled previous targeted attacks on Kashmiri Pandit employees and said repeated circulation of alleged threat posters has created a sense of fear and insecurity among them.
It sought enhanced security cover for all PM Special Package employees posted in the Valley, besides immediate and thorough verification of the latest threat and identification of those responsible.
The latest appeal comes amid heightened security concerns among Kashmiri Pandit employees following similar threat communications circulated earlier this month.
