‘No External Party Has Any Locus Standi’: India Firmly Rejects Turkish President Erdogan’s Unwarranted Kashmir Rant at UNGA

India on Tuesday delivered a blunt diplomatic rebuttal to Turkey, firmly stating that no third party possesses any standing whatsoever on matters concerning the country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly.

Reacting decisively to the statements made during the high-level debate of the 81st UNGA session in New York, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed Ankara’s commentary as uncalled for and completely unacceptable.

Erdogan’s Repetitive UN Posturing

During his address at the UN headquarters in New York, the Turkish head of state had claimed that issues in South Asia, including Kashmir, should be resolved through dialogue within the framework of the United Nations Charter and relevant resolutions.

The remarks mark the seventh occasion since 2019 that President Erdogan has leveraged the UN platform to raise the Kashmir issue, continuing a pattern of diplomatic grandstanding that has repeatedly drawn sharp rebukes from New Delhi.

Ankara’s UNGA Kashmir Track Record

Erdogan first brought up Jammu and Kashmir at the UNGA in September 2019, shortly after the historic constitutional reorganization of the former state. He sustained this rhetoric through 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. While Turkey skipped any mention of the region in 2024, the narrative resurfaced in 2025 and again at the 81st General Assembly.

New Delhi Reaffirms Sovereign Red Lines

Reiterating India’s longstanding and consistent doctrine, MEA officials reiterated that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are, and will forever remain, an integral and inseparable part of the Indian Union.

India’s Unambiguous Position

  • Zero Locus Standi: Third-party interventions or commentary regarding India’s internal sovereign matters are flatly rejected.
  • Simla Agreement Primacy: All bilateral outstanding issues between India and Pakistan must be resolved strictly under the framework of the 1972 Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration.
  • Terror and Talks Don’t Mix: Any constructive engagement remains conditional on the complete, verifiable dismantling of cross-border terror infrastructure.

New Delhi has repeatedly emphasized that bilateral mechanisms leave zero room for third-party meddling, underscoring that sustained cross-border terrorism sponsored from across the border remains the singular core issue requiring resolution.
