The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections recorded a historic voter turnout of 66.91%, marking the highest participation since the state’s first elections in 1951. The Election Commission of India reported that over 7.4 crore voters exercised their franchise across the state’s 243 constituencies in two phases, held on November 6 and November 11, 2025.
Significantly, women voters outpaced male participation, with female turnout reaching 71.6% compared to 62.8% for men, underscoring the growing political engagement of women in Bihar. This surge in turnout is attributed to increased voter awareness, robust election management, and active grassroots mobilization.
Exit Polls Suggest NDA’s Strong Lead
Multiple exit polls released after the conclusion of voting indicate a resounding victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]. Aggregated data from several polls project the NDA to secure between 130 to 167 seats in the 243-member assembly, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 122 seats.
Political analysts observe that the NDA’s alliance strategy, effective campaign outreach, and governance record have resonated with voters, contrasting with challenges faced by the opposition Mahagathbandhan coalition. The election results, scheduled for declaration on November 14, are highly anticipated to confirm these projections.
Bihar Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar praised the voters for their enthusiastic participation, calling this election a landmark in the democratic process of the state. The strong turnout amidst a pandemic recovery phase highlights the electorate’s commitment to democratic principles and governance choices.
