SRINAGAR: In a major policy announcement aimed at safeguarding the welfare of government teachers across Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Education Sakina Itoo on Saturday declared that the government will move an official resolution against the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in the upcoming session of the Legislative Assembly.
The Minister underlined that the persistent uncertainty surrounding the TET requirement has triggered widespread mental anxiety among teachers, directly impacting classroom teaching and student learning outcomes across the Union Territory.
“Our teachers are preparing lakhs of students for competitive and board exams, and they are efficient enough to qualify any test. But as far as TET is concerned, it is not merely a matter of a test—it is about the respect, dignity, and integrity of our educators.”

Addressing the legal status of the issue, the Minister clarified that the matter remains sub-judice before the Supreme Court of India, with the school education department actively seeking a review.
“The matter of TET is pending with the Supreme Court, and the Jammu and Kashmir Education Department is continuously approaching the apex court, seeking reconsideration of the decision,” Itoo noted, reassuring the teaching community that the government is utilizing every available avenue to address their grievances.
