Poonch, Aug 26: Six persons, including two women, lost their lives while three others sustained injuries when a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday evening.
The fatal mishap occurred in the Sheldhar area of Surankote. Authorities confirmed that among the three injured individuals, the condition of a young child remains critical.
Confirming the casualties, Poonch Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma stated that six individuals died on the spot. A swift rescue operation was initiated immediately following the incident, and emergency responders evacuated the injured to the nearest healthcare facility for urgent medical intervention.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch, Dr. Pervez Khan, said that emergency teams, including 108 ambulances and district medical staff, were mobilized promptly after receiving an alert via the Police Control Room (PCR).
The bodies of the six deceased—four men and two women, all aged between 20 and 25 years—were shifted to the district hospital for post-mortem and medico-legal formalities. Police have taken cognizance of the incident.
