Nine persons, including a Naib Tehsildar, State Investigating Agency Officer, and a tailor, were killed, and 32 others injured after a high-intensity blast at the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar. The explosion occurred due to the accidental detonation of confiscated explosives from an alleged terror module recently busted in Faridabad, Haryana.
The blast caused widespread panic and significant damage to nearby houses within a radius of 300-500 meters. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other leaders expressed grief and assured support for the victims’ families. The government announced ex-gratia relief for the deceased and injured.
The investigation is ongoing, and security forces have been asked to maintain strict vigilance. Medical treatment is being provided at local hospitals with directives to ensure the best care possible.
