India Criticizes Pakistan at United Nations General Assembly 2025

India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, delivered a strong condemnation of Pakistan’s support for terrorism, countering statements made by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

At a high-stakes session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York, India’s representative launched a scathing critique of Pakistan, accusing it of openly glorifying and promoting terrorism. The Indian speaker took the floor after Pakistan’s delegate made remarks concerning Jammu and Kashmir, using strong language to highlight the dangers of legitimizing terror in any form. India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar explicitly criticized Pakistan for being the “epicentre of global terrorism.” He highlighted incidents such as the April 2025 attack in Pahalgam which killed 26 civilians, underscoring that most major terror attacks on Indian soil could be linked back to Pakistan. Dr. Jaishankar urged the global community to apply unrelenting pressure on the entire network that supports terrorism.

India asserted that it is essential for the international community to take an uncompromising stand against terrorism. The statement received nods from several allies and was noted as one of the most direct condemnations delivered at this year’s session.

This exchange added fresh fuel to long-standing diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. India reiterated its commitment to peace but warned against any attempts to justify or support activities that threaten regional and global stability.
Analysis & Context
The incident highlights the fragile relations between India and Pakistan, where diplomatic platforms often become battlegrounds for sharp exchanges. Experts believe India’s stand at the UN reflects an evolving policy of assertive diplomacy, aiming to mobilize global opinion against state-sponsored terrorism.

The speech’s timing is crucial, coming amid increased cross-border incidents and renewed debates on international cooperation to combat extremist threats. Observers say both countries may escalate their rhetoric in upcoming international forums as regional politics intensify.

India’s call for collective responsibility on terrorism is seen as a message not only to the subcontinent but also to the broader international community, ensuring that the fight against terror remains a central theme on the global agenda.
