All J&K Transport Welfare Association Urges Immediate Government Action on Long-Pending Transporters’ Issues
The All J&K Transport Welfare Association, chaired by S. Karan Singh Wazir, has called for urgent government intervention to address the grave and long-pending issues plaguing the transport sector in Jammu & Kashmir. At a press conference in Jammu, the association expressed frustration over the administration’s apathetic approach, warning of severe operational and financial crises faced by transporters.
Main Demands & Issues:
- Arbitrary blacklisting of commercial vehicles
- Non-rationalised E-Challan system
- Absence of designated bus stops and commercial pick-up zones
- Non-payment of dues for transportation services at rallies/events
- Non-seriousness in regulating routes for E-buses & E-rickshaws
- Privatisation of vehicle testing stations & excessive fees
- Non-issuance of stage carriage permits for old buses
- Long-pending revision of transport tariff fares (overdue since April)
The association also highlighted the recent economic setbacks due to the terrorist attack in Baisaran (Kashmir), Operation Sindoor, and natural calamities in Doda, worsening the financial strain on the community.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful protest, stressing that government inaction is forcing transporters to consider agitation as a last resort to protect their livelihood and rights.
