Historic Event Unfolds Virtually
In a landmark virtual ceremony on October 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally dedicated the new Bihta campus of NIT Patna to the nation. The event, streamed live, saw the participation of Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, underlining the facility’s anticipated role as a technical education hub in eastern India.
Modern Facilities & Student Opportunities
- Capacity: The new campus can house 6,500 students, in hostels and smart classrooms spread across 1,10,000 square meters. Construction was completed as part of Phase I, with a total grant of approximately ₹500 crore from the central government.
- Tech Integration: Noteworthy additions include a 5G Use Case Lab, a Regional Academic Centre for Space in collaboration with ISRO, and an Innovation and Incubation Centre that’s already incubated nine startups.
- Sustainability & Infrastructure: The campus boasts eco-friendly buildings, modern laboratories, digital libraries, and dedicated spaces for entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary research.
Youth and Skill Development Initiatives
PM Modi released over ₹450 crore in scholarships for 25 lakh school students, distributed 4,000+ job appointment letters, and announced the launch of 1,200 vocational skill labs across schools, furthering the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ agenda. These efforts are expected to bolster education, entrepreneurship, and job skills in Bihar and beyond.
