Indian Pilots Demand Grounding of All Boeing 787 Planes Amid Safety Concerns

Indian Pilots Call to Ground All Boeing 787 Planes Over Safety Issues

New Delhi, October 11, 2025

Following a series of alarming system failures on Air India’s Boeing 787 aircraft, Indian pilots have formally demanded the immediate grounding of all Boeing 787 planes operating in the country. The call came after multiple incidents where flights registered unexpected technical glitches, prompting emergency landings and raising serious safety concerns.

The pilots’ union released a statement highlighting the urgency to address the aircraft’s electrical and system malfunctions that have reportedly caused sudden loss of power, affecting flight safety. The incidents include:

  • Emergency diversion of Air India flight AI 173 mid-air due to engine warning systems.
  • Repeated failures of the onboard electrical system in other Boeing 787s during long haul flights.
  • Reports of unexpected shutdowns of key cockpit systems requiring immediate manual overrides by the pilots.

These technical challenges have not only raised apprehensions among the flight crew but also caused anxiety among passengers who experienced unexpected emergency landings. Air India has pledged to cooperate fully with aviation regulators and Boeing to investigate and resolve the reported issues promptly.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulator, has also initiated a thorough safety audit of all Boeing 787 aircraft operated by Indian airlines, focusing on systems integrity and compliance with international safety standards.

Industry experts note that while the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is widely regarded as a technologically advanced aircraft, these recent failures highlight the critical importance of continuous monitoring and timely maintenance. The pilots’ demand to ground the entire fleet reflects the need for uncompromising safety assurance before resuming standard operations.

This development has sparked a nationwide debate over aviation safety protocols, with calls from passenger groups for enhanced transparency and stricter oversight regarding aircraft airworthiness.

Authorities and airline officials have assured the public that passenger safety remains the top priority and that all necessary steps will be undertaken to restore confidence in the Boeing 787 fleet.
