Mission Chardi Kala Launched for Punjab Flood Relief

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched Mission Chardi Kala, a global fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the extensive rehabilitation efforts following the devastating 2025 floods in Punjab. The Mission represents strength and hope amid adversity, calling upon Punjabis worldwide, citizens of India, industrialists, artists, charitable trusts, and well-wishers to join hands in rebuilding the flood-ravaged state.

Flood Impact in Punjab

The 2025 floods in Punjab caused unprecedented damage, considered the worst in over three decades. Key statistics include:

  • Over 2,300 villages submerged
  • More than 2 million people affected
  • About 5 lakh acres of crops destroyed
  • 56 lives lost in the tragedy
  • Approximately 7 lakh people rendered homeless
  • 3,200 government schools damaged and 19 colleges turned to rubble
  • 1,400 clinics and hospitals severely damaged
  • About 8,500 kilometers of roads and 2,500 bridges washed away or collapsed

Initial damage assessments estimate losses around ₹13,800 crore, with the total expected to rise as water recedes and detailed surveys are conducted.

Chief Minister’s Message and Campaign Goals

CM Bhagwant Mann expressed that Punjab has faced countless challenges throughout history but has always stood tall with courage and resilience. The Mission Chardi Kala campaign seeks to transition from immediate relief to focused rehabilitation, including:

  • Rebuilding homes and infrastructure
  • Restoring farmlands for sowing
  • Reopening schools for displaced children
  • Reviving livelihoods and local economies

The campaign emphasizes full transparency and accountability, promising that all donations will be utilized solely for rehabilitation purposes. A dedicated war room has been set up in the CM’s office to oversee operations and ensure that efforts remain efficient and effective.

Community Spirit and Call to Action

The Chief Minister highlighted the spontaneous and heroic efforts of Punjab’s youth who risked their lives during floods, as well as the humanitarian support from religious institutions like gurudwaras and temples providing shelter and food. This widespread unity is regarded as the state’s greatest strength during these trying times.

The call to action urges everyone to contribute generously via the official portal www.rangla.punjab.gov.in to help Punjab rise once again with hope and strength.
