1000273770-1024x576 Tragedy Strikes Katra Vaishno Devi Route Amid Heavy Rain, Several Dead and Injured

A tragic landslide struck the route to the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine near Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday afternoon around 3 PM near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkwari, causing multiple casualties and injuries. The incident occurred amid relentless heavy rainfall that has been battering the region for several days.

At least six pilgrims lost their lives and 14 others were injured as the landslide hit the pilgrimage route atop the Trikuta hills. Rescue and relief operations are underway with full deployment of manpower, including the Indian Army and disaster response teams. The yatra (pilgrimage) has been suspended to ensure the safety of devotees. The Jammu administration has also restricted night movement of people due to the flood threat and worsening weather conditions.

The heavy rain has caused widespread devastation across Jammu and Kashmir, leading to landslides, flash floods, and damage to infrastructure. Earlier, four people died in rain-related incidents in other parts of Jammu within 24 hours of the tragedy at Vaishno Devi. Several roads and national highways have been closed due to landslides and washed-out bridges. Rivers in the region are flowing above danger levels, prompting authorities to issue red alerts and urge residents to stay away from hill slopes and water bodies.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured full support for relief efforts. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also conveyed condolences and said that the situation is being closely monitored.

Authorities have appealed to pilgrims to remain updated only via official channels and avoid rumors as rescue operations continue.
