On September 28, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the new Udhna (Surat)–Brahmapur Amrit Bharat Express, extending India’s network of superfast trains to 13. This service is designed to provide affordable, fast travel for citizens traveling between the western state of Gujarat and the eastern state of Odisha.

The train features modern coaches with improved seating, safety systems, and enhanced passenger amenities. The inauguration ceremony was held digitally, with local officials and jubilant crowds at both Udhna and Brahmapur stations.

The project is part of the ongoing “Amrit Bharat Yojana”, which aims to modernize railway infrastructure, strengthen regional economies, and connect underserved locations seamlessly. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the train’s potential to boost tourism, trade, and ease movement for migrant workers and students.

The new route will reduce travel time by several hours. The train will run daily, making travel more convenient and supporting the development agenda of both states.
