Incident Overview

The sudden cloudburst in Rajgarh’s higher elevations caused torrents of water to sweep away houses, inflicting severe property damage across Ramban district. Among the deceased, officials have confirmed the deaths of two women, and it is feared several individuals are still trapped beneath debris. Many homes have been completely destroyed, leaving daily life in the region in turmoil.

Rescue and Relief Efforts

A coordinated rescue operation is underway, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and other agencies working tirelessly to locate the missing and support affected residents. No major injuries have been reported among survivors so far, and authorities are providing every assistance possible to families impacted by the disaster.

Regional Impact and Weather Update

Jammu and Kashmir have been battered by a week of relentless rainfall, resulting in several other cloudbursts, landslides, and widespread flooding. The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway remains closed due to landslides and ongoing adverse weather, leaving thousands stranded and disrupting essential connectivity. Meteorological agencies have extended warnings for more thunderstorms and heavy rain over the coming days.

Authorities’ Statement and Warnings

District officials caution that the risk of further flash floods and cloudbursts remains high for the next 10–15 days in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared. The government continues to monitor the situation closely, promising all necessary support to those affected by the tragedy. This latest disaster is part of a recent pattern of severe weather events in the region, highlighting the urgent need for heightened monsoon preparedness.
