In the wake of a devastating car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened high-level meetings with senior officials to emphasize the need for a relentless search for those responsible. Posting on X, Shah vowed, “Every individual involved in this attack will face strict consequences from our agencies.”
The blast occurred around 6:52 PM when a Hyundai i20 car bearing Gurgaon registration stopped at a traffic light. The explosion resulted in the death of at least 12 individuals, injuring 30 others. The force of the blast was powerful enough to engulf three nearby vehicles in flames and scatter debris, including human remains, across a radius of 20 to 25 meters.
Prime Minister and Defence Minister Offer Support and Assurance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Bhutan, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured swift justice for the victims. “My heart goes out to the families affected by this horrific incident. The entire nation stands united with them,” he stated, noting his continuous communication with investigative teams throughout the night to monitor developments.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended condolences during the Delhi Defence Dialogue, highlighting the prompt and thorough investigation underway by top agencies. He pledged that those behind the attack will face justice and will not be spared under any circumstances.
Investigations Point Towards Terror Links
Authorities are examining potential connections to terror groups, with early investigations revealing a chilling trail linked to Pulwama. The vehicle involved in the blast belonged to a doctor reportedly associated with terror activities, as confirmed by law enforcement sources. The details of suspects involved are progressively emerging as the inquiry advances.
Police Commissioner Satish Golcha described the explosion as sudden and destructive, emphasizing the critical nature of the investigation. Public safety measures have been ramped up in Delhi amidst ongoing efforts to bring those responsible to justice swiftly.
