The Jammu and Kashmir Khidmat Centre Association has launched a protest seeking immediate implementation of the long-promised Permanent Settlement Policy. Members cite a complete collapse of livelihoods after 16 years of dedicated public service, highlighting how the cessation of banking services and prolonged delays have left many in crisis.
Khidmat Centres have played a crucial role in delivering government and banking services, especially to remote areas. However, operators now face uncertainty and hardship due to loss of banking support, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The association accuses J&K Bank, the designated Service Centre Agency, of failing to secure the future of these vital centres.
Despite repeated assurances from government officials including Dr Jitendra Singh (MP), no concrete action has been taken for employment status. The situation has left 1109 highly skilled professionals in financial and professional uncertainty. The association argues that permanent settlement is both a right and an obligation for the stakeholders involved.
The Association is appealing directly to Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for urgent intervention. They warn that if no policy decision is made promptly, further agitation may follow until their legitimate demands are fulfilled.
